I ♥ Social Media!

Social media has become so important to lots of people now-a-days, including me. How many time do YOU spend on facebook, twitter or reading blogs? Once I'm awake, I usually will look at my blackberry to check my e-mail, messages on facebook/twitter and read the comments on my blog. Hahah, it has become my morning routine xD, sick isn't it?
I started with my Beauty blog since the beginning of 2010. Through the years I opened a Twitter account & Facebook page for my blog. I sometimes share videos and pictures there which I don't post on my blog. Also some preview pictures for blog posts and pictures that I take in my personal life will be shown there. (see above - a few twitpics) It's fun to share things that I'm seeing to my friends & blog viewers. Everybody is able to comment and discuss along with topics, that's the fun part. This year I get to know a lot of you bloggers through twitter ^___^. A lot of you are living in a different country, which is actually even more fun & interesting because the place, people and environment is so different in every country. We are all able to share pictures & information with each other, thanks to the social media. Besides, I'm happy that we all can get along because we all have the same likings e.g. beauty products. I'm so happy to chat with you guys and get to know y'll a bit better through social media ^^! I ♥ it!

ADD ME ON :

People who would like to chat with me or who would like to ask me things. You can add me on twitter and/or facebook by clicking on the logo's above :). P.s. I don't use formspring, because twitter and facebook are way better ♥.

Bornprettystore : Blue Crackling Nail Polish

Remember my Bornprettystore haul? Most of you girls were curious about the crackling nail polish that I got from that store, so I decided to review that product first. The crackle nail polish is from the brand Laushine, a Chinese brand. All colors looked so awesome on the bornprettystore website, so it was hard to choose.
However, I eventually chose the dark blue crackle polish because I thought that it would be great with a silver nail polish (that I recently bought) as the base color.

Base color
I applied two layers of the silver nail polish from Essence as the base color. It's the Essence nail art cracking base color, #02 Sparkling Silver that I used.

Crackling nail polish
Note: Before application, you really have to shake the nail polish very well! I really like the color of this crackling nail polish :D, it matches perfectly with the silver nail polish. It also dries within a second which is extremely fast. This nail polish has a matte finish as you can see on the picture below.

Packaging & brush
The packaging looks awesome, as you can see on the first picture of this blogpost! I totally love the glass bottle. The brush of the nail polish is good as well and it's very easy to apply. This brush is even better than the one from Barry M that I tried a few days ago.
Where can you buy it?
You can buy the blue crackling nail polish at Bornprettystore.com. They are selling it for $5,50. A lot more colors are available, you really should check it out cause the green and purple one are looking awesome as well :D! Go to this link to check out their assortment: Cracking polish. The crackling nail polish that I received wasn't the same as the one on the picture from their website. It's from a different brand and the color is slightly different too, but I totally prefer this one, especially because of the pretty packaging. This one looks way better than the one on that picture.

My opinion
This crackle nail polish is awesome! I love the color, packaging and the brush! It's easy to apply and it cracks within a second! Besides, I think that the product is affordable as well. I couldn't stop staring at my nails because they were looking awesome, haha no kidding! I will definitely buy the other colors ^____^♥!

Review: KORRES Thyme Honey Moisturizing Cream

I started to use the Thyme Honey moisturizing cream from Korres. I've been testing this product out for a month now and I'm still satisfied with it. Last year I had seen many videos on Youtube about the products of Korres and the Wild rose 24h moisturizing cream seemed to be the most popular. I wasn't able to get that product so I chose* the Thyme Honey moisturizing cream. This brand is well known because of the natural ingredients in their products.
What does it claims?
Honey, a natural hydrating agent, helps skin keep an ideal level of moisture, while providing intense nourishment and elasticity to dry skin. The extract of Imperata cylindrica continually regulates the cellular water equilibrium, thus providing 24-hour moisturizing. Due to its special texture, thyme honey cream absorbs easily, while leaving the skin soft and moisturized. This product is suitable for dry to dehydrated skin.
Source: korresusa.com

Where to buy?
Korres products are all manufactured in Greece. Their products are also sold in The Netherlands at the online store Zalando, in Germany, France, Switzerland, Australia, Cyprus, China, USA, UK, Scotland, Finland, Czech Republic and in Dubai.

Packaging
The product comes in a sturdy cardboard box, with an extra cover with the English version of the product information, the primary box contains the information in Greek. The boxes are also stamped with an expiry date, which is repeated on the actual product. This date on the packaging refers to unopened products. They recommend to use this product within 6 months after opening. All the packaging is marked as recyclable which is stated on the box. I actually like the look of the container more, which is made of glass and aluminum. There is an extra cover above the moisturizing cream, which I'm holding in the picture. It also comes with a small scoop, so that you're able to scoop the product out. The small scoop is very useful and hygienic.
Texture & scent
It has a honey scent, which isn't overwhelming and the cream is quite thick. This isn't suitable as a day cream because of the thick texture. It also takes a bit long to absorb into the skin. It takes at least 20-30 minutes to absorb which is way too long for me in the morning. That's why I'm using this cream at night. It also leaves a little bit of sticky feeling after applying and unfortunately it gives me an oily face in the morning =(.
Price
It costs €23,95 at Zalando for 40ml 1.35 fl oz. I have been using this every night for 1 month and I haven't used much of it yet. You don't need a lot of product at once, but I do think that I am able to finish this within 6 months

Key ingredients
  • Thyme Honey, rich in vitamins, amino acids and flavonoids, provides antioxidant protection, while polysaccharides attract and absorb water, acting as a hydro-regulating agent ensuring ideal skin hydration.
  • Imperata cylindrica, a desert plant extract, ensures 24-hour long-lasting hydration by continually regulating the cellular water equilibrium.
  • Grape seed extract, rich in Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, helps promote healthy and youthful skin.
  • Squalene, an olive oil derivative, increases skin elasticity and hydration.
  • Olive oil, almost identical in chemical structure to our skin lipids, provides perfect hydration.
  • Macadamia nut oil re-balances dryness without clogging the pores.
There is a long list of "Formula Facts" on the packaging which gives more information about the ingredients. This is very useful if you want to avoid certain ingredients. On the packaging it says that it contains 85.3% natural content. It also has no mineral oil, petrolatum, silicones, parabens, propylene glycol, ethanolamines, sles, ales, synthetic dye, phtalates, retinol, wheat nor polycyclic musks. But it does contains PEG, fragrance pH-neutral, alcohol (0,2%) and nuts. This product is not tested on animals and is suitable for vegetarians.

Does it do what it claims?
Is my face moisturized for 24 hours? My skin does feel moisturized, but not for the whole day, probably for 12 hours.

Absorbs easily? It takes 20-30 minutes to absorb, depending how thick you apply it on your face. Which means that it takes a while until its completely absorbs.

Leaves skin soft? A bit soft, but it also leaves me a bit of sticky feeling.

My opinion
Repurchase? No
This product is great as a night cream. I love it that it contains a lot of natural contents, it just gives me a better feeling while using it. It doesn't really do what it claims, but I do recommend this to people with a dry - dehydrated skin, because it does moisturizes the skin well and the dry flakes/spots on the face will go away because of this. Things that I don't like about the product is the sticky feeling afterwards, the long absorption time and the oily face that I'm getting in the morning. Because of these cons I don't think that I will purchase this product again.
*This product was sponsored by the company Zalando. They didn't sell the wild rose moisturizing cream, so I wasn't able to get it.

DIY Avocado & Honey Hydrating Mask

Yesterday I tried a DIY avocado face mask. As y'll know avocados are great for you. They are super rich in vitamins and minerals, especially Vitamins A and K which will brighten the skin. This mask also should be moisturizing & nourishing, which is suitable for people with a normal to dry skin. Since I have a combination dry skin I wanted to try it out and see if it's really that good. Homemade masks are usually inexpensive and everybody can make it because it's easy as well ^___^.

All you need is:
- 1/4 medium ripe avocado
- 2 tbsp. of honey
- a bowl
- a fork or a mixer
- a brush

Step 1: Clean your face.
Step 2: Put the 1/4 avocado into a bowl and mash the avocado with a fork or put it in the mixer.
Step 3: Add 2 teaspoon of runny honey and keep mashing the avocado.
Step 4: Apply the mask with your brush. Spread a thick coat of the mask on your face and leave it on for at least 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and a washcloth.

My opinion
Well, did this mask really work for my skin? To be honest, I didn't like this mask at all. It did feel fresh at the beginning and it did make my skin soft afterwards but NOT moisturizing. After I washed it away with warm water it not only felt dry, it was itchy as well! I think that I'm allergic to something somehow o__O'. It was quite weird, because I'm not allergic to anything normally. This is the first time that I tried an avocado mask and my skin didn't feel good at all. Thankfully, I didn't get a break out from it though. My sis had also tried this DIY mask before but it felt moisturizing and soft on her skin =/. Hmmm... have you girls tried this homemade mask before?

Do you always dress to impress?

"Do you always dress to impress?" That's the question of the week. I recently saw this video about a women who gets different reactions when she has different clothes on. It's an interesting video because it's so true! People will look different at you when you look prettier with make up and have pretty clothes on with a decent hairstyle. I posted this video before on my facebook & twitter, so some people might have seen this already. However, to people who haven't seen it yet, here is the video:

Some people will doll themselves up even when they go to the supermarket, some only do that when they go to the city center or work and some just don't care how they look. What do you do?

My question to you is:

Do you always dress to impress?

Nail Up Magazine - Need some nail art inspiration?

I love nail art magazines ^^. In this blogpost I will share a nail art magazine called: Nail up. It's a Japanese magazine with a lot of cute nail art creations which are good for inspiration. This is the May 2011 issue. Download the whole issue here. You can also go to this tumblr page for nail art inspirations: fuckyeahnailart.tumblr.com. What do you use for inspiration?

My nail art creations
It really depends on my mood what I will create. I usually just pick the nail polishes that I would like to use at that moment and I will create something with it. Sometimes I'm inspired by things around me, things that I use or that I see outside. Like the weather: rain - rainy day nail art tutorial or the stars - starry starry night nail art tutorial.

Barry M Instant Nail Effects Black & Peach Melba

Remember my London haul? I bought some Barry M nail polishes back then, I wanted to try these for a long time now! I will show you some swatches of these nail polishes in this blogpost ^__^. Check out the crackling effect of this awesome nail polish of Barry M!
Instant nail effect, Black #311
This crackle nail polish dries very fast. You will be able to see it crack within a second o_o! It has a pretty matte finish.

Nail paints, Peach Melba #318
It's a cute Peach/Apricot color ^^, I'm loving pastel colors! This nail polish isn't sheer at all, a second coat isn't even needed. However, it did chip after two days even after applying a good top coat.

Shake it
Don't forget to shake the nail polishes before you apply it. While you shake it you will see & hear two silver balls in the bottle. These silver balls will mix the color better and faster, so don't remove them!

There was a small tutorial attached:
1. Paint your nails with your chosen colour and let them dry.
2. Apply a single coat of Instant Nail Effects, don't overlap
3. Watch the unique effect appear before your eyes!

Ingredients of the Crackle nail polish

Brushes
One thing that I didn't like while applying the nail polish was the brush. These brushes are too thin in my opinion. They could have made it thicker which would make it easier to apply. It was a bit streaky while I applied the Peach Melba =(.

Price & Where to buy?
The instant nail effect black is £3,99 and normally the Peach melba nail polish is £2,99 at Superdrug. However, I bought the Peach melba for £2.- cause there was a buy 2 for £4.- deal back then. These nail polishes are also sold at Topshop, Boots and at their website: http://www.barrym.com. People in The Netherlands can also find these at the webshop, Alice & jo's havesentials.

Swatch
As you can see in the picture below, the cracks are looking different on every nail. I actually don't think it's very pretty but it's just cool to see the effect. It really cracks within a second xD so awesome!

My thoughts
I definitely recommend the black crackle nail polish (instant nail effect, #311). It dries extremely fast and it gives you pretty matte crackling nails. I think it's good for the price as well :). I haven't tried a cheaper crackling nail polish before, so I can't compare it with an other one. The Peach melba is just ok. I'm loving the color of that nail polish, but it's a pity that it chips so fast. Besides, the big downside of these nail polishes are the thin brushes, it makes it a bit hard to apply =/.

Bornprettystore Haul

A few weeks ago I received an email from Bornprettystore and they were so kind to offer me a few products of their store to review. AHHH I was so excited when I read that email since I LOVE nail products =D. You must have heard about this store by now since I blogged about it a couple of times. They even allowed me to choose the products that I wanted to review \^o^/! YAYYY~!! It took me a while though because their assortment is quite large xD. Visit their store: Bornprettystore.com to check it out yourself. Eventually I picked 8 products:
The products
1. Silver glitter nail polish with small stars. This nail polish made me think of the LUCIDarling nail polishes.
2. Golden glitter nail polish.
3. Blue crackling nail polish. I really wanted to have a different color than black & white, so I picked blue.
4. 7pc Makeup Brush Set with a golden butterfly case.
5. Lace nail art stickers

7. 3 Sizes pearl rhinestones. I wanted these rhinestones for a very long time now. I finally have it ^__^!!! These are awesome for bridal or Gyaru nails.

Review: NYC Color Wheel Mosaic Face Powder

This is the first New York Color (NYC) product that I'm trying. This color wheel is available in more colors. I bought the 723A Pink Cheek Glow, they also have 722 Translucent Highlighter Glow, 724 All Over Bronze Glow and the 725 Rose Glow. The one that I bought rather looks like a blush than a face powder to me xD.

Cake decorating workshop

I went to a cake decorating workshop a few days ago with my sisters and a few friends of my sis ^^. Whoa, it was my first time doing something like this and it was harder than I thought. A lot of patience and creativity is needed while decorating a cake. In the picture below I'm holding the cake that I decorated, a cute pink cake with yellow roses and green & white leaves. Lol decorating this whole cake took me around 3 hours xD. It was fun to do this once, but I wouldn't do this again. It's way too expensive and I don't have the patience for it. (Yes, it's expensive, this workshop costs €40 per person). It's not a thing that I would like to do in my free time =/.
How to decorate a cake
The cake was already made when we arrived, all we had to do is add some cream & jam and decorate the whole cake. The outer layer and the small decorations are made of marzipan ^^.
Adding some decorations~ I'm loving the yellow roses ^___^!
Dadadadum~ here is the end result ^^. Do you like my creation? Looks very simple right =p? This took me 3 hours to do x___x"!!!!
We all made a cute cake, doesn't it look pretty? It looks so colorful =D!
Have you ever decorated a cake like this before?

Review: Silk Whitia - Hanfang firming mask

Description on the packaging - what does it claims
The rich content of natural citric Acid and Malic Acid extracted from Fructus Schisandrae Essence effectively refine pores. Ginseng Extract, Vitamin E and collagen soothe fine lines, revitalize the skin and postpone aging, restoring the skin to become fine, firm, supple and radiant.

Price
Sasa is selling it for $16.60 per box. 1 box comes with 5 masks which means that 1 mask costs $3.32, that's quite expensive for masks though. However, Sasa often have a buy 1 get 1 free deal which means that you will get 10 masks for $1.66 per mask. It's out of stock at Sasa at the moment, so you won't be able to buy it now.

Packaging
The packaging is purple with a cherry? on it. It looks very simple and neat. Like all the other masks, you have to tear the packaging open to get the mask out.

The texture & scent
These masks are more thick and softer compared to the My Beauty diary masks (natural line). The mask came folded and it was drenched in essence. There was lots of serum on it, the essence was even dripping so I recommend to put a tissue under it while unfolding the mask. The serum was also sticky >.<' that's the reason why you have to wash it after after 20 minutes. This mask didn't have a scent and the fitting was good for my face.

These pictures were taken after I left it on my face for 20 minutes. As you can see, the Silk Whitia mask is thicker than the My Beauty Diary mask.

Ingredients
Fructus Schisandrae Essence, Wheat Germ Protein, Ginseng Extract, Vitamin E, Betaine, Propylene Glycol. On the packaging it says that the material is from France and the Plants Essence is from Hong Kong.

How to use
Place the firming mask onto cleansed skin and leave it on face for 15 - 20 minutes, then remove and rinse face with water. Use daily for best results.

My opinion
I wanted to try this mask since Fuzkittie highly recommended this mask. Lol watching Youtube videos ain't good, it makes me want to buy a lot of products hahah. Anyways, back to my opinion of this product. This is the first mask that I've tried of this brand, so I was excited to try it out. This mask doesn't have many ingredients which can be a good thing. It's quite expensive though. I would buy it if Sasa has a great deal again, but I wouldn't buy this mask for the normal price ($16.60 per box). My experience with this mask is good. After I pulled the mask off after 20 minutes, my face felt stiff, i guess that's the firming effect ^_^. After washing my face, it felt moisturized and firm. I loved the result, this mask really worked after using it only once. If you want to purchase Silk Whitia masks, I definitely would recommend this one.

Review: Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX

I'M LOVING THIS PRODUCT! I had read so many good reviews about this sleeping mask and I was dying to try it out myself. Remember the sweet package which I received from Vicky? She included a sample jar of the Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX ^___^ ♥. AWESOMECAKES!! (Laneige is a Korean brand btw.)

What does it promise?
It's a sleeping mask that provides intensive hydration, vitality and brightening effect while restoring skin with deep relaxation while you're asleep. This product is suitable for all skin types.
Source: http://www.laneige.com/

Commercial

Packaging
The sample size comes in a blue plastic jar and the normal size (80 ml) comes in a sturdy glass container with a screw top lid. Besides, it also has a small plastic spatula to scoop the product out.

Price & Where to buy?
It's quite an expensive product. They are selling it for €18.60 at Sasa.com. The normal size contains 80 ml of product. This sample jar that I got contains 20 ml and this can be purchased at Yesstyle for €6.76.

Texture, Color & Scent
The product itself is a creamy light blue, almost white gel and it has a very pleasant and light fresh floral scent. Once applied onto skin, it feels like thick water but it's not runny in any way. It also has a cooling effect which is very relaxing when applied. When it is fully absorbed into the skin, it feels very smooth but you still retain that moistness that you typically feel when you wear a cream.

How to use
Use 2 - 3 times per week after moisturizer and eye cream. Apply a walnut-sized amount evenly onto face, avoiding the eye and mouth area. No need to wash off after applying. Allow gel to absorb into the skin for about 15 minutes before going to bed. Wash your face the next morning and you will notice that your skin will be brighter and more hydrated.

When I first applied this on my face I used way too much product than needed. I applied a thick layer at the first time. That took around 30 minutes to absorb into my skin. I didn't wait at first and just went to bed, which made my pillows all dirty >.<". Therefore, I wouldn't recommend to apply that much product, a walnut-sized amount is too much. The second time I used it, I applied a thin layer which took around 15 minutes to absorb. It did feel a little bit sticky but it didn't stain and I didn't have any breakouts after using this product. I have been using this product for longer than a month now.

My opinion
I highly recommend this product to people with dry to dehydrated skin ^__^. This product really feels good & relaxing!!! I especially love the cooling effect and you can even put this in the fridge for maximum coolness! Haha, that's great for the summer ^__^! It really does what it says, I noticed the brightening effect after using it a couple of times and my combination dry skin feels more hydrated than before :D. The only downside of the product is the price. Is it really worth the money (€18.60)? I would say yes. Just keep in mind that you won't need much product, the 80 ml jar will go a long way. I will definitely purchase the normal size when I'm done with the sample jar =D.

Have you tried this product before?

London Haul, Part 1 - Superdrug, Boots & Topshop

This is my London Haul part 1. I went to Superdrug and Boots a couple of times while I was in London. Unfortunately I didn't see lots of things that I wanted. Most of the products were also sold in The Netherlands. I actually wanted to buy some Sleek palettes there, but I didn't see it at Superdrug =/, too bad. However, I bought some Barry M nail polishes that I wanted for quite a while.

I bought #318 Peach Melba and #304 Mint Green at Superdrug. There was sale on the Barry M nail paint line (excluding instant nail effect nail polishes). They sold 2 for £4 or something, I forgot... so I bought two of them. Also, I stopped by Topshop and saw a Barry M stash over there, so I bought two of the Barry M Instant Nail effect nail polishes. These are two crackling nail polishes and I bought #316 white and #311 black for £3.99 each.

Btw. I LOVE Top Shop, it's so large!! They have a huge assortment, but the clothing were quite expensive, so I didn't buy any clothing. I didn't think that it was worth the money =/.

I will do some swatches of the nail polishes later ^___^, the crackling nail polishes are awesome. They are drying very fast!

I also bought a Vaseline Lip Therapy, the stick version at Boots. I don't know why they aren't selling these in Europe. The packaging is so much better than the pocket size version.

Starry Starry Night Nail Art Tutorial

This is my version of the starry starry nigh tutorial. This tutorial is similar to the Christmas Party Nail Art Tutorial which I did last year. I know that bubzbeauty did this tutorial as well, but mine is slightly different, hope you will like it :). You just have to follow these steps ^__^ it's way easier than you think:

Step 1 : Apply a base coat and let this dry.
Step 2 : Apply a dark blue nail polish with a sponge on the tips of your nails. See for more information my sponge nail art tutorial. I used the E.L.F #1543 Navy Blue nail polish for this step. It's a pity that it looks black =(, I wanted to have a darkish blue nail polish. Click here for a swatch.
Step 3 : Apply a silver glittery nail polish on your tips.
Step 4 : Use a different silver glittery nail polish. I used a nail polish with silver flakes.
Step 5 : Apply a silver star on each nail and don't forget to apply a top coat afterwards.

I have used the following nail polishes...
- Step 1: Base coat from HEMA, a Dutch store.
- Step 2: E.L.F. Dark Navy #1543
- Step 3: Multi dimension 3 in 1 nail polish with XXXL shine from Essence.
- Step 4: Essence nail art twins, glitter topper #02 julia
- Step 5: Essence nail art glitter stars and the top coat from Essie- 3 in one glaze
