Mascara Commercials - Don't Get Fooled!

Seriously, when you look at most of the mascara TV commercials. Do you really think that the mascara will create that extra volume? Do you really think that the mascara will create that extra length? I don't... I only think that the wand of the mascara looks cool lol, but I never bought a mascara after watching a TV commercial, because I know I will be disappointed afterwards. Most of the time you won't get the same effect like in the TV commercials, so don't get fooled by it!

Have you ever purchased a mascara after watching a mascara ad?

I'm really getting tired of the mascara ads now-a-days, because the models in the commercials are usually wearing fake eyelashes, extensions or it's just photoshopped. (I don't say that all mascara ads are fake, just many of them.) It's all misleading and exaggerated, just like this one:

What do I usually do before buying a mascara? One mascara costs around €10.- to €15.- each and you will throw it away after 3 months. Every year you will spend approximately €60.- or more on mascaras. However, you won't just buy any mascara that you see in the drugstore right? It's still important to buy a mascara which really does its work and which is suitable for your eye lashes. Not only the formula is important but also the wand. I usually read many reviews and watch Youtube videos before purchasing a mascara. Have you seen this video from Michelle Phan before? This might help if you're still looking for a mascara that is suitable for your eyelashes:

  3. I guess I'm lucky with my thick curly lashes. I don't usually wear mascara (eyeliner is more my thing, I always mess up my mascara), and people still think I wear make up. Some time ago, my sister said she was envious of my lashes, because hers are the thin, short and straight kind. Oh genes...

I really don't understand commercials. Everyone can see the lashes in that advertisement are fake and/or photoshopped, yet still people spend loads of money on buying it, because they're fooled by what they see... And that's how people with a messed up idea(l) of beauty are created.

  4. Ik snap niet dat mensen in die reclames trappen. Ik lees dan ook liever reviews dan op een reclame af te gaan die niet objectief is.

  5. I have to recognize that I am lucky: I have thick and long eyelashes (often my dad argue with me bcoz he thinks I am wearing falsies! ahahahah). I have tried many Mascaras, even the most prestigious ones, BUT the best for me is the "unforgettable" mascara by Kiko. My eyelashes instantanely becomes even thicker, long and so CURLY! And just for 7 euros.

  6. Nope, cuz I think the adverts are fake...
and as you say they probably use falshies and or computer effects to make things more tempting to buy!
Wij Chinezen hebben vaak dunne, korte wimpers :(

  7. I know, and I seriously don't know why they would be so explicitly using fake lashes for those commercials. To be honest consumers get nothing out of those commercials. I have super short pointing down lashes so mascaras are a must for me. I usually stick with Japanese mascaras like Majorlica Majorca since I feel like they do a better job on Asian eyelashes :D

  9. omg this is a really good post!!! ^^ I didn't know ANYTHING about wet/dry mascaras. oops! Haha. I have a dry-ish one but it makes my eyes sting because of the chemicals I think. :P But it really lengthened and made my asian eyelashes long!! ^^ thanks for this post!

  11. @Winnie, totally agree with you! I also think that Japanese mascaras are working better on thin, 'pointing down' lashes.. I've tried a few and they all worked for me ^^

@Liesewiesje, thank you ^^ i'm glad you liked this article =D

@hihihi, you should try mascaras of Japanese brands like fiberwig and majorlica majorca ^^ it's working way better on asian eye lashes than like maybelline...

  12. Haha thanks for the recommendations...I'll definitely check them out online. ;) I used to think mascara ads didn't use fake eyelashes. I thought it was sort of disgusting how it made the eye look like it had black spiderwebs around it. ;) but no, when u use the real mascara your eyelashes look much more normal and less scary! thank goodness! :)
