Five Ways to Wear Maxi Dresses

Oh my I can't wait until it's a bit hotter here in The Netherlands. Don't get me wrong, I like to wear knitted clothing during the cold days, but I also like to wear dresses and tops during the hot days. Maxi dresses are a Summer style staple and with a good reason - it's flattering, comfortable and versatile, the maxi is a dress that will earn its keep in your wardrobe. I'm quite petite so it can be hard to wear one, since my legs aren't that long lol, but a pair of high heels would pull the trick ^^. Here are five ways to wear the maxi this Summer:

ON THE BEACH
The maxi dress is a Summer holiday essential and the perfect beach cover up. Pull it on over your bikini or swimsuit, slip on a pair of flip flops and you’ve got the perfect outfit for on the sand or around the pool. I recently found this George stripe maxi dress. It looks very simple and it's easy to match. Its bandeau style means no tan lines, and its vibrant white, purple, pink and green colour combo is fresh and summery and it's just £12.

TO THE BAR
Maxi dresses are a dream for summer nights out. They pair perfectly with a wedge heel, and the addition of a few bangles is all that you need to take your maxi from day to night.

DINNER OUT
You’ll be the queen of comfort if you wear a maxi dress out to dinner. You’ll be able to have a starter and a pudding, with no restrictive waistband to worry about.

You don't need to wear a dress all the time, you can also wear a maxi skirt which is easy to mix and match as well. Have you seen this tutorial from Wendy's lookbook that she recently released? Check it out here:

FORMAL EVENTS
While the maxi dress might have a reputation for being one of the more casual styles of dresses, think of a maxi as a formal long gown and you have the perfect outfit for formal events at a fraction of the cost.
A dress like this Moda Jersey maxi dress would be perfect for a formal occasion such as a dinner dance, ball or wedding. Simply add long drop earrings, heels and a clutch bag and you are done. If you are interested you can find more dresses at George at ASDA, they have a large assortment and so many lovely items for the Summer :).

WORK WEAR
Ok, so the maxi dress might not be traditional workwear, but imagine a simple, stylish jersey maxi pulled in with a waist belt and teamed with a cropped blazer jacket, flat black ballet pumps and a stylish black satchel or tote. Perfect right? You can easily wear it on a Friday and hop on to a bar after work with that dress!

While the cool, comfy maxi dress might be your go-to summer style staple for casual wear, don’t underestimate it. As at home at the beach as it is at the bar, the maxi dress is a versatile new season purchase that you’ll be wearing right through until next winter. Do you have maxi dresses in your closet? Do you like to wear it? Leave a comment below :).
